66THREPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATED BY EASTERN RAILWAY

Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway, hoisted the National Flag on the occasion of the 66thRepublic Day Celebration in Eastern Railway Sports Complex, James Long Sarani, Behala, Kolkata, on Monday morning, 26th January, 2015. He also took the Salute of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Contingent, Lady Volunteers of Eastern Railway’s Civil Defence and school children.
Addressing a large gathering of Railwaymen & their family members, Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway said that Eastern Railway has succeeded in earning Rs.3863 crores from freight traffic during the period from April to December, 2014 as compared to Rs. 3257 crores earned during the corresponding period of the previous year. He also mentioned that there is a remarkable growth of 13.11% in passenger earning as Rs. 1717 crores was earned from passenger traffic during the period from April to December 2014 by carrying 87 crores of passengers.
Shri Gupta highlighted the massive cleanliness drive undertaken by this Railway in line with the objectives of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. The cleanliness drives are being conducted at all offices, stations and Railway premises in Eastern Railway jurisdiction.
He further added that punctuality has always been the topmost priority item of Eastern Railway. There was an improvement of punctuality upto 20% in respect of mail/express trains and 28% in respect of passenger trains in Eastern Railway jurisdiction.
He also highlighted the progress of the major ongoing construction works under Eastern Railway’s jurisdiction, like the construction of new line between Dumka & Rampurhat, completion of double line of 195 KM, electrification of 55 KM of routes etc. Construction of new lines, doubling, gauge conversion and electrification projects will provide even better services to the people, he added.
In the field of sports, Eastern Railway’s performance is also encouraging. Since human resource is the asset of Railways, specific steps are taken to ensure best industrial relations including speedy disposal of settlement dues, implementation of integrated pay-roll and accounting system and Advanced Railway Pension Access Network both in all Divisions and workshops. Great care has been taken to provide most advanced medical services to Railwaymen, he added.
Shri B.K. Patel, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway, Smt. Veena Gupta, President Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ERWWO), Principal Officers and large number of staff of Eastern Railway attended the celebration.
A cultural programme was also organized to mark the occasion.
